KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor witnessed the signing of a joint venture agreement between Sawit Palm Oil Industrial Cluster Sdn Bhd (SPOIC), a subsidiary of Sawit Kinabalu Group, and Jetama Sdn Bhd (JSB) to develop a plant capable of treating two million litres of seawater a day at the Sawit Kinabalu Sandakan Industrial Park (SK SIP).
The ceremony at Menara Kinabalu was also witnessed by State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and Sawit Kinabalu Deputy Chairman Datuk Rubin Balang.
The agreement was signed by Sawit Kinabalu Group Managing Director and CEO Datuk Victor Ationg and Jetama Chairman Datuk Yusof Mannan, with Jetama CEO Datuk Ahmad Naim Uddang and Sawit Kinabalu Deputy CEO Datin Stella Ambrose acting as witnesses.
The 1,010-acre SK SIP is being developed as a fully equipped industrial park to diversify Sabah’s economy, attract strategic investment and spur downstream industries.
The new plant will use Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology to turn seawater into treated water for industrial use, ensuring stable supply to support industry and local communities.
Victor said the project would be a catalyst for socio-economic growth, creating jobs, driving downstream industry and ensuring a reliable water supply.
“This joint venture reflects the ongoing commitment of both GLCs to support the state’s development agenda and boost investor confidence in Sabah,” he said.
