Johor Bahru (March 24): Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd (WHS), a wholly-owned Investment Arm of the Sabah State Government visited Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd (GML)’s manufacturing plant in Senai, Johor to conduct a feasibility study for Bus Rapid Transit of Kota Kinabalu (BRT KK) in order to improve the well-being of the people as well as to upgrade the current transportation system in the city, this is also deemed to be one of the projects to transform Greater Kota Kinabalu into a “Smart City”.

GML is the leading bus and bus body manufacturer in Malaysia with over 30 years of industry experience. During the visit, WHS was briefed about the capabilities of GML including bus manufacturing, IT infrastructure, operating control and information center, fare collection system, etc. WHS will receive the technical knowledge and support from GML to potentially become the turn-key project leader of BRT KK, as the state government has been looking into this project since as early as 2015.
Besides, WHS and GML also explored the possibility of bringing the manufacturing activities to Sabah state as “The state government strives to create job opportunities as well as to improve the competence of industrial environment in Sabah”, said En. Azman bin Ruslan from Chairman of Angkatan Hebat Sdn Bhd subsidiary of Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd during the visit. GML also shared their vision of promoting zero-emission vehicles in Malaysia with their strong past track records including BRT Sunway and the recently launched ‘Kuching Metro Electric City Bus’.

WHS strongly believes that through a partnership with GML, Sabah will see its first-ever fully electric city bus very soon.
