The motorsport enthusiast witnessed the official unveiling of the new 2023 Myvi S1K race car with its new race livery, along with the introduction of a formidable new race team, exceptional drivers’ line-up and exciting sponsor announcements today at the 2023 International Automodified (IAM) and Malaysia International Motor Expo happening at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur.
Officially launched by Ts. Nizmar bin Mohd Nazar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), the Myvi S1K new race livery combines a dynamic and stylish design. The livery, inspired by the brand’s iconic heritage, features bold fusion colours of a striking Ocean Green and strokes of Red True Blood along the aerodynamic shape of the car, further exemplifying the Myvi S1K team’s commitment to pushing boundaries.
This innovative design sets the stage for an electrifying racing season, with Myvi S1K yet again becoming the 1st and only Perodua Myvi to compete in the Sepang 1,000km Race. This solidifies the Myvi S1K position as a force to be reckoned with in the motorsport arena.
The Sepang 1000km endurance race is no joke, and sometimes even the big race teams go home empty-handed, falling victim to the harsh conditions of the race. This sole Perodua Myvi, however, defied the odds as not only it managed to finish the race in its first attempt, it also took an outstanding P10 class finish in the SP2V category!
Making a comeback for the 2nd year with new name DMM 204 Speedster, the team gathered around its resources and prepared themselves for another Sepang 1000km outing, this year with new faces and new sponsors. DMM 204 Speedster will take on the challenge of the toughest endurance race in the country with a line-up of both new and experienced drivers behind the wheel, all aiming to bring home the best result from the team.
DMM 204 Speedster is excited to announce its race team led by esteemed Team Principal, Datuk Dr. Zahari Husin. Under his astute leadership, the team is poised for an advantageous level of success. The team’s unwavering dedication to excellence and passion for motorsport is evident in every aspect of their operations.
From the original three drivers, only Faiz Sulaiman will remain in the race seat while Shafiq Rosli will assume the role of Race Director, and Fariqe Hairuman as Race Technical Director. Filling in the seat will be Ashraff Dewal, a local driver who has years of driving experience including some in GT cars. And the final driver will be Aiman Haziq who came on top of the driver search program, defeating all the other candidates to secure the third and last seat in the Myvi S1K.
For 2023, DMM 204 Speedster will be supported by a strong line-up of sponsors and partners in making this amazing journey a success. Coming in as the title sponsor for the team will be DMM Performance, a sub-brand of DMM Sales, the largest Perodua authorized dealer in Malaysia. Also showering the team with support are names like Vort-X Malaysia, EXN, Wrap Autowerks, Raxer Wheels, Max Racing, AES, 4 Qul, Fawster, Recaro Malaysia, RnR Autosport, 204 Autoworks, and MS Racing.
The team is proud to carry these names as most of the sponsors are local companies, further reinforcing the national spirit that is already incorporated in the team since its inception.
The decision to go with a Perodua Myvi for such a tough race did raise some eyebrows, but the fact that it finished the race after 181 laps around Sepang was a testament of its capabilities. With this daring concept now proven, the team is aiming to introduce some upgrades to the car which with hopes in giving it an extra edge for this year’s endurance race.
Developing the car has been an uphill struggle given with limitation of data about how the car will run in an endurance race, and not to forget, getting performance parts for the car is far harder than the existing, proven race cars like the Honda Jazz or Suzuki Swift. But even with the limited time and parts, the team showed that they could do more with less by finishing the race in 10th in class, and 38th from a field of 68 cars overall.
DMM 204 Speedster team is gearing up for an unforgettable season filled with excitement and passion. The official unveiling of the Myvi S1K 2023 today marks the return of the ‘King’, set to conquer the Sepang track again and hearts of local motorsport enthusiasts.
