SANDAKAN: Five individuals sustained injuries in a late-night collision between a Proton Saga and a double-cabin four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle near Mile 9, Jalan Labuk, on Saturday.
The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at 11:12 pm via the MERS 999 emergency line and despatched a team to the location, approximately 11 km from their station.
Before firefighters arrived, members of the public assisted in rescuing the injured victims—a 23-year-old Proton Saga driver, a 46-year-old 4WD driver, and three teenage female passengers.
Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and ambulance personnel provided on-site treatment before transporting all five to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for further medical attention.
Firefighters conducted a safety inspection of the crash site to ensure no additional hazards remained for other motorists before concluding operations at 12:22 am.
