TAWAU: A 28-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) crashed into his motorcycle near here on Wednesday.
OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin in a statement said at about 6.20 pm the Tawau District Police Headquarters received a report regarding a road accident at Jalan Chong Thien Vun involving a MPV and a motorcycle.
Preliminary investigations and a 0.32 seconds dashcam footage revealed the crash occurred around 6.00 pm on the same day.
The MPV, driven by a 41-year-old man, was traveling from Jalan Mawar towards the RTM quarters on Jalan Chong Thien Vun when the driver suddenly lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with an electric pole on the road divider and a motorcycle, he added.
The motorcyclist was on his way home from work to Taman Da Hua 6 when the accident occurred. The MPV and motorcycle were badly damaged, and the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries, requiring treatment at Tawau General Hospital. The MPV driver, however, escaped unharmed, Jasmin said.
“Police are continuing investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and inconsiderate driving,” he said. – James Leong
