SANDAKAN: The police here launched a month-long special anti-drug operation from 20 March to 20 April 2025, involving 15 personnel and 10 targeted locations across the district.
The operation saw the arrest of 152 individuals for investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, alongside the seizure of high-value narcotics and criminal assets totalling about RM350,000.
The suspects were detained under Section 39B, Section 39A (1), Section 15(1)(a), and Section 12(2) of ADB 1952. The raids uncovered various drugs, including 1.3 kilogrammes of syabu (methamphetamine), ecstasy powder, ecstasy pills, and ketamine, 235 ml of liquid containing vape mushroom.
OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture of Property) 1988, police confiscated five vehicles, eight pieces of jewellery and cash with a total value estimated at RM350,000, he added.
Police data revealed that from 2023 to March 2025, a total of 4,167 individuals aged 14 to 41 and above, were arrested for drug-related offenses in Sandakan, averaging five arrests per day, Ahsmon said.
Ahsmon reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug activities. The public is urged to report suspicious behaviour via QR code, VSP, Sandakan Police Facebook Page or directly at the police station.
“Community cooperation is vital to dismantling drug trafficking networks,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the District Police Headquarters here held a welfare visit to the Al-Yakin Orphanage as part of the 218th Police Day programme on Tuesday.
The police delegation, led by the Sandakan OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah, was welcomed by the orphanage’s secretary, Mustarin Abdul Muhim.
According to Ahsmon, the orphanage, which has been operating since 2013, houses orphans from Form 1 to Form 5.
“Beyond our daily duties, Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) remains committed to assisting the community, especially underprivileged groups like these orphans,” stated Ahsmon.
He emphasized that these children are valuable assets for the nation’s future and deserve attention and support.
During the visit, the police donated school supplies and equipment to ease the orphanage’s burden and motivate the children to continue their studies.
“This is part of PDRM’s annual welfare programme. We will continue to implement more initiatives like this,” added Ahsmon.
The welfare programme will continue with visits to retired police personnel and ailing government staff around Sandakan, as well as collaborations with various agencies to assist those in need.
This visit represents one of PDRM’s initiatives to strengthen ties between the police and the local community.
