PUTATAN: Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, emphasised that local authorities (PBT) play a crucial role as the third tier of government after the Federal and State Governments.
He said PBTs not only have the authority to approve or reject policies but are also responsible for developing commercial and housing sites as well as approving business licences.
“PBTs are entities vested with the power to approve or reject policies, develop commercial and housing sites, and issue business licences,” he said.
Dr Joachim, who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister remarked when officiating the swearing-in ceremony and presenting appointment letters to the Putatan District Council Members for the 2025–2027 term, at a hotel here.
He noted that the role of PBTs in strengthening public service delivery also includes important aspects such as cleanliness monitoring and waste management.
As such, he urged all newly appointed Putatan District Council members to carry out their duties with integrity and to be proactive in delivering services to the people.
“I extend my congratulations and best wishes to all newly appointed Council Members.
“Carry out your responsibilities with integrity and frequently engage with the community to understand their actual needs,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Council Members for their contributions and cooperation throughout their tenure.
“Thank you for all the initiatives, views, and support given towards the development of the Putatan district. I hope this cooperation will continue,” he said.
