TAWAU: Fire broke out at a sawmill factory located in Jalan Tanjung Batu Laut, about 8 KM from here on Monday evening.
The Tawau Fire and Rescue station received an emergency call at 6.36 pm via MERS999 and promptly despatched teams to the scene. Firefighters who arrived at 6.44 pm, brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes.
Senior Operations Commander Madzlan Sarman reported that fire affected nearly 47% of the factory roof and confirmed that the fire was successfully contained.
Firefighting operation concluded at 9.07 pm after firemen ensured the area was safe and there were no casualties reported.
Other agencies involved in the operation included the police, Civil Defence Force, RELA, Sabah Electricity and the Kampung Titingan community firefighters. – James Leong
