KINABATANGAN: Member of Parliament cum Lamag Assemblyman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin claimed major roads in his constituency remain neglected.
“I wish to draw the attention of the Sabah State Government, particularly the State Public Works Department (JKR), to the condition of roads in several areas across the state,” Bung who is also Sabah UMNO chairman said in a statement yesterday.
Bung noted that although pothole repairs are underway in multiple locations, including the Pan Borneo Highway project, major roads in his constituency specifically around Bukit Garam, Sukau, and the main Sandakan-Lahad Datu route through Kinabatangan remain entirely neglected.
“To date, there is no indication that repair or maintenance works will commence. Roads in these areas are severely damaged, riddled with potholes, and pose significant hazards to users,” he added.
“This situation raises concerns about partisan politics influencing maintenance allocations. Is my constituency being sidelined due to political differences? This should not occur. Priority must be given to public safety and welfare, not the political affiliation of an area’s representative,” Bung said.
He emphasizes that road maintenance is the State Government’s responsibility via its designated agency, JKR Sabah. Dilapidated roads not only burden the people but also fuel resentment, as they imply governmental neglect of basic needs.
“Therefore, I appeal to and demand that the Sabah State Government immediately repair roads in Kinabatangan, including the Bukit Garam Town roundabout and the junction leading to Sukau without political discrimination,” Bung said.
Do not weaponize basic infrastructure like roads for political gain. The people deserve safe, adequate facilities regardless of their constituency’s political leanings, he continued.
