TAWAU: Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that left a male jogger critically injured at Mile 3 Jalan Apas early June 7 (Saturday).
The Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD Tawau) was alerted at about 4.15am regarding the incident, which occurred around 3.50am near Swan Cake, Batu 3, Jalan Apas.
Initial investigations reveal the 34-year-old victim was jogging with a group of 20 companions from McD towards Bandar Seri Indah. At the time of the incident, the victim and two others were leading the group on the right side of the road when they were struck from behind by a “bronze mica” Toyota Hilux pickup truck with an unknown registration number.
The impact threw the victim into a concrete drain on the left side of the road. He sustained head injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the Tawau General Hospital. Medical staff report his condition is now stable.
Police are looking for the driver of the Toyota Hilux to assist investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and inconsiderate driving.
