One-stop agency for utilities

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah now has a one-stop agency to expedite utility work permit processes, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
This follows the launch of the Sabah Utility Corridor (KUS), which will also help develop the state’s utility asset database.
He said the strategic initiative serves as a catalyst for systemic development in Sabah and reflects the State Government’s determination to accelerate progress, coordinate utilities, and attract new investments.
Hajiji’s speech was read by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir during the launching event at a hotel here yesterday.
He said the move aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap, which stresses comprehensive development and the delivery of efficient, transparent, and forward-looking services.
The use of digital technology and integrated utility maps through KUS can fast-track project approvals, reduce overlapping work, and enhance safety in the field.
Hajiji said the approach would have a major impact not only on the smooth rollout of government and private projects, but also on the state’s digital agenda, investment competitiveness, and smart city development.
“This is an example of public-private sector synergy that can deliver high-impact solutions for the people,” he said.
He added that better coordination of utility processes will open more areas for development, spur economic activity, and create jobs, especially in rural areas.
“Projects like this will strengthen industrial logistics and expand access to essential services such as electricity, water, and telecommunications in rural communities,” he said.
Hajiji also urged all staff of KUSSB and Qhazanah Sabah Berhad to remain professional and committed to ensuring the facility truly benefits the people.
“We have laid a solid foundation. Now is the time to implement it boldly and earnestly,” he said.
