SANDAKAN: The Royal Malaysian Navy Region 2 Headquarters (MAWILLA 2) here received four additional G2000 MkII Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) on Tuesday.
The official handover ceremony took place in the Main Conference Room of MAWILLA 2 and was officiated by Ministry of Defence’s Deputy Secretary-General (Development) Dato’ Mohd Shaiful Ibrahim.
The event witnessed the signing of the handover documents between representatives of Gading Marine and the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
The G2000 MkII FIC is equipped with an automated weapon system, including a Remote Control Weapon Station (RCWS) and a 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun (HMG). This system enables medium-range weapon operation with high precision, enhancing combat capabilities and crew safety during maritime operations.
Additionally, the vessel can reach a maximum speed of 50 knots, making it ideal for interception missions in strategic waters. This high-speed capability is expected to improve response times in addressing maritime threats, particularly in the Eastern Sabah region, which is frequently exposed to intrusions and cross-border criminal activities.
The G2000 MkII FIC is part of a batch of 13 new vessels acquired by RMN in phases. Previously, under Phase One, two vessels were officially delivered to MAWILLA 2 in February 2024, bringing the total number of fast interceptor craft under the command of MAWILLA 2 to six.
The deployment of the G2000 MkII FIC will enhance RMN’s capability to address various maritime challenges while strengthening readiness to safeguard the security and sovereignty of the nation’s waters. – James Leong
