SANDAKAN: Former State Assemblyman for Tanjong Papat, Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, has issued a strong challenge to all Members of Parliament (MPs) from Sabah, urging them to be prepared to resign en masse if the Federal Government proceeds with an appeal against the High Court’s decision on the state’s 40% revenue entitlement under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
In a statement, Poon expressed his full support for UPKO’s recent firm stance. He emphasized that the 40% revenue issue is a constitutional right fundamental to the people of Sabah.
“I challenge all Sabah Members of Parliament, especially those holding positions as Ministers or Deputy Ministers, to take a firm stand. If the Federal Government files an appeal against this historic court decision, then every Sabah MP in the Government should resign immediately in solidarity with the people of Sabah.
“This 40% entitlement is not a political issue; it is a constitutional and birthright of every Sabahan. The High Court’s decision is a long-overdue recognition of what has been enshrined in the Federal Constitution since the formation of Malaysia.
“Sabah is not merely one of the 13 states in Malaysia. It is one of the three sovereign entities, together with Sarawak and Malaya, that formed the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. This is a foundational fact that cannot be erased or forgotten.
“The rights of Sabah under MA63 are non-negotiable. Any attempt to challenge the High Court’s ruling is an insult to the spirit of MA63 and the struggle of generations of Sabahans who seek justice and equity.
“The people of Sabah wish to see sincerity and good faith. Honouring this constitutional responsibility would be a clear signal that the Federal Government truly respects MA63 and recognizes Sabah as an equal partner in the Federation,” said Poon.
