SANDAKAN: A total of 90 residents and staff of Sandakan Prison have benefited from a knowledge-sharing initiative on various technical skills through the “Jejak Mahabbah 2.0” programme, organised by Sandakan Polytechnic Sabah (PSS).
The high-impact community service programme, held for one day on Oct 23, builds upon the success of the inaugural “Jejak Mahabbah 1.0” held earlier this year.
PSS director Mohd Sahran @ Awang Mohidin stated that the programme serves as a platform for knowledge sharing to achieve the goal of ‘TVET FOR ALL’.
“This programme is not merely a community service project, but a channel to deliver Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) skills to all levels of society, including those in rehabilitation institutions,” he explained.
He added that the initiative successfully fostered a sense of care, responsibility, empathy, and volunteerism among PSS students.
The programme involved 20 PSS staff as committee members and 10 students as part of the organizing team.
The key skills and knowledge shared during the event included General Knowledge, Moral studies, Languages, and the Fundamentals of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Hands-on activities featured Agrotechnology sessions, Aquaculture Technology (covering the basics of building aquaponics systems and seedling cultivation), a Robotic Arm demonstration (Robotics and Automation), a Fiqh Wanita (Islamic jurisprudence for women) sharing session, and a “Jom Kekal Sihat” (Let’s Stay Healthy) activity.
PSS hopes that programmes of this nature will continue to receive strong support from government agencies and the local community to ensure their smooth implementation in the future. This effort aligns with the polytechnic’s ongoing commitment to providing meaningful support and care for rehabilitation institutions across Malaysia. – James Leong
