Liau Fui Fui emphasises that Sabah is at a critical juncture

SANDAKAN: Liau Fui Fui, the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) candidate for the Elopura state seat, visited the Sandakan District Police Headquarters yesterday morning to observe the early voting process.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel and Election Commission (SPR) staff on duty for ensuring the democratic process ran smoothly and transparently.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Liau Fui Fui emphasised that Sabah is at a critical juncture. She stated that to resolve the long-standing issues of water supply, electricity, and roads, Sabah needs its own economic capacity.
“The key to that capacity is the implementation of the 40% entitlement as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“This is not an additional demand or a political issue; it is a right guaranteed by MA63 and the Federal Constitution,” she said.
According to her, with the full implementation of this right, water systems could be upgraded, the power grid strengthened, and road construction and repairs could be carried out without relying on external approval.
Liau Fui Fui further elaborated her stance, stating that national parties are incapable of truly representing Sabah’s interests, even if they field local candidates.
“Candidates (from national parties) still have to follow directives from party leaders in Peninsular Malaysia, party decisions are not made in Sabah, and Sabah’s priorities are often sidelined.
“As long as Sabah is controlled from outside, Sabah will not progress,” she asserted.
She said local parties are the genuinely independent choice focused solely on Sabah, free from political pressure from the Peninsula, and make decisions based on the needs of the people of Sabah.
Concluding her statement, Liau Fui Fui called on voters to use their power in the polls on November 29 to determine the future direction of Sabah.
“Vote for local parties for Sabah’s voice. Vote for local parties for the 40% MA63 entitlement. Vote for local parties for real solutions to Sabah’s problems.
“Sabah’s future must be determined by the people of Sabah themselves,” she asserted, stating that this is the essence of the struggle for a stronger and more dignified Sabah. – James Leong
