SANDAKAN: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for Kuamut, Datuk Masiung Banah, has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving land ownership issues for the constituency’s residents.
Since becoming assemblyman in 2008, Masiung said he formed a Special Technical Committee to assist villagers with their land grant applications. To date, nearly 10,000 individuals have successfully received their land grants under his tenure.
“A number of applications are still being processed under the Sabah Native Land Survey Special Programme,” he disclosed here.
Masiung highlighted this achievement as proof of his ongoing dedication to securing land rights for the community—a key component of his election platform.
The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah vice-president also underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the State and Federal Governments after the election. While acknowledging public support for local leadership, he cautioned that such sentiment should not come at the expense of federal cooperation.
“We must not overlook the contributions of the Federal Government, particularly under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has already delivered on nine matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 within just three years,” he stated.
Masiung expressed confidence that GRS would secure the most seats in the election.
Polling for the Kuamut seat, which has 18,228 registered voters and eight candidates, will take place on November 29. Early voting was held on November 25. – James Leong
