SANDAKAN: Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), nestled in Danum Valley, remains committed to promoting wildlife conservation awareness.
This commitment was reflected in the team’s success at the Borneo Bird Festival 2025, held on 25–26 October at the Rainforest Discovery Centre.
“These collective achievements highlight BRL’s deep commitment to wildlife stewardship, creativity, and conservation awareness,” said Freddie Coleman, Chief Executive Officer of Borneo Nature Tours Sdn Bhd and Innoprise Jungle Lodge Sdn Bhd.
The event, which brought together birdwatchers, photographers, and conservation enthusiasts from across the region, saw BRL Junior Naturalist Ak Mohd Shahrin Nizam earn top honours in multiple categories.
He won first prize in the Borneo Wildlife Video Contest for his moving video of a mother and baby orangutan, and first runner-up for his rare footage of mating colugos.
He also secured second runner-up in the Borneo Bird Video Contest with his stunning Blue-throated Bee-eater video.
In the Artistic Bornean Bird Makeup Contest, Eric Estiva (makeup artist and costume designer), and Emilia Amos (model), both from the Housekeeping Department, claimed first runner-up with their creative, bird-inspired presentation that captivated audiences.
BRL, a subsidiary of the Yayasan Sabah Group of Companies, also commended its dedicated nature guides — Sabinus, Emmanuel, and Cassy for proudly representing the lodge in the Borneo Bird Race and Borneo Bird Photo Race.
“We are incredibly proud of our team’s achievements at this year’s Borneo Bird Festival,” Freddie said.
“Their creativity and passion reflect the spirit of Borneo Rainforest Lodge, where every individual plays a part in celebrating and protecting the rich biodiversity of Danum Valley.
“This recognition reaffirms our commitment to nurturing local talent while promoting conservation through meaningful engagement,” he added. – Wu Vuide
