Fire destroys house, flood-prone areas monitored in Telupid

TELUPID: A house was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Telupid while heavy continuous rainfall in the district prompted monitoring of flood-risk areas on Sunday night.
The blaze was reported at around 8.15 pm. A two-story semi-permanent house was completely destroyed. No casualties were reported.
The Telupid Civil Defence Force (APM), acting as first responders, carried out firefighting operations with the help of the public. Beluran firemen arrived at the scene at around 10.25 pm, after travelling 100 kilometres from Beluran town.
Firefighting operation concluded at 12.24 am.
According to reports, seven residents were affected, comprising five men, one woman, and one boy. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
Separately, heavy rain that began at 6.15 pm and continued until 10.10 pm prompted the Telupid APM to conduct monitoring in several at-risk areas.
A four-member patrol team at 10.14 pm, covered three main locations at 10.14 pm. At the Kampung Bauto grocery store, water was reported to have entered the premises, although overall water level remained under control.
Meanwhile, the situation at Kampung Bauto and SK Tangkungon was reported to be under control with no flood incidents. The river water level was recorded at Level 3 during monitoring.
The APM team safely returned to their base at 12.02 am after completing the monitoring duty. – James Leong
