Tawau police arrest man wanted for criminal intimidation

TAWAU: A man sought by the police here to assist in the investigation of a criminal intimidation case was, arrested on Monday.
According to OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin, the 37-year-old local suspect was nabbed in the vicinity of the car park at a public housing complex in Jalan Gudang Empat.
He said the arrest, made around 7.20 pm by a police team from the district Criminal Investigation Division, followed a report filed by a local woman.
The victim lodged a police report on Dec 8 one day after she allegedly received death threats and offensive messages from her ex-husband via WhatsApp, Jasmin said.
“The suspect was previously listed as a wanted person and has a past criminal record under Section 506 of the Penal Code related to criminal intimidation,” Jasmin pointed out.
He added that preliminary investigations found no reports of injuries or property loss in the incident, but the threats had caused fear to the victim.
The suspect is now detained and being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Jasmin said.
Jasmin emphasised that the police take any form of criminal intimidation seriously and advised the public to promptly file a report if they receive threats to their safety or that of their family. – James Leong
