Relocation of “Pasar Dinihari” to Pasar Ramai-Ramai after facility upgraded

SANDAKAN: Crucial facility upgrades at the Pasar Ramai-Ramai site must be looked into before the planned relocation of the town’s “Pasar Dinihari” by Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) is to proceed.
Karamunting People’s Development Leader (PPM) Yap Hsiu Min, who is monitoring the move, conducted a night inspection of Pasar Ramai-Ramai to assess conditions and gather trader feedback. Several deficiencies were highlighted, including clogged public toilets and insufficient nighttime lighting.
Yap has formally communicated these issues to MPS, stressing that “the relocation should only take place after all basic facilities are fully ready.”
While supporting MPS’s re-organisation plan—which aims to enhance market management and create a better business environment—Yap noted that Pasar Ramai-Ramai does offer benefits such as ample parking, relatively complete infrastructure, and official council support, including a reduced monthly fee of RM45 for traders.
Yap called on MPS to expedite improvement works, particularly in lighting, cleanliness, and drainage, to ensure a smooth transition that does not disrupt traders’ livelihoods. He pledged continued collaboration between MPS, trader representatives, and his office to resolve any relocation issues, with the goal of establishing a cleaner, more orderly, and thriving night market in the area. – James Leong
