KOTA KINABALU: As the auspicious Lunar New Year unfolds, let us make 2026 a “new beginning” to forge a more peaceful, stable, vibrant and progressive environment for Sabah’s continuing socio-economic advancement and prosperity, says former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
She wants the people to embrace new hopes, aspirations and opportunities, urging them to be anticipative, proactive and enterprising in living up to the expectations of the Year of the Fire Horse.
“This is because the Year of the Fire Horse is expected to bring rapid change and team with opportunities, too, according to feng shui experts.
“In Chinese culture, the horse symbolises the attributes of speed, physical power, strength and resilience, which translate into fast and decisive actions in addressing a particular situation amid challenges.
“In fact, it is observed that the State Government, under the capable leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, adopts these good qualities as it seriously tackles current issues for long-term solutions while implementing new programmes and projects for economic transformation in the interest of the people’s well-being,” Liew said in her Chinese New Year festive message.
The new Government’s post-election strategic actions and initiatives reflect the dynamism of a horse, she added.
Liew expressly pledged to continue serving the people in other capacities. “As long as I am able-bodied, and in a position to assist, I will be of service to the rakyat within my capacity,” she assured.
From the perspective of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), the former State Minister called on all Malaysians in Sabah to welcome tourists with open arms and treat them with respect.
“Sabahans are widely known to be courteous, friendly and hospitable, so let us maintain this positive reputation for continuity.
“Do make our visitors feel at home while they bask in the ‘Sun, Sea and Sand’, which is synonymous with Sabah as a desirable tourist destination, or if the more adventurous ones opt to explore our unique natural wonders,” Liew said.
