KOTA KINABALU: Sabah received a RM22.75 million grant from the Federal Government under its Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) initiative in support of the State Government’s environmental conservation efforts.
The grant brings the total amount received by the state to RM126.36 million since 2019. It was presented by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu.
“This clearly shows the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the State Government’s sound environmental conservation policy,” said Hajiji.
“The State Government welcomes the continuous support from the Federal Government,” he said.
Also discussed was the amendment to the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the harmonisation of the National Climate Change Bill with Sabah’s legislation to ensure that the benefits of the carbon economy can be optimised by the Sabah State Government.
In attendance were NRES Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Nor Yahati Awang and senior officers.
