KOTA KINABALU: The Institute for Development Studies (IDS) Sabah has presented its research findings and policy recommendations to the state government to strengthen high-impact development planning.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun received the report from its chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul, while chairing a meeting at his office.
The meeting discussed the direction of the state’s development and economic strategies.
Masidi stressed the need to use data and research in formulating effective policies to ensure the continued well-being of the people.
He also expressed hope that strategic collaboration between the State Government and IDS would be further strengthened to ensure that every policy delivers broad-based benefits to the people of Sabah.
Masidi called for greater emphasis on developing local products, which have the potential to become a key driver of the state’s economy, through improvements in quality, branding and marketability at both domestic and international levels.
The meeting also discussed a proposal on “Implementation Mechanism and New Revenue Sources” aimed at diversifying state revenue and strengthening strategic asset management.
Sabah must explore new potential in high-impact sectors beyond traditional revenue streams to become more competitive, sustainable and resilient, Ramzah said.
