MPS Councillors engage Sandakan Water Dept engineer on supply disruptions

SANDAKAN: Sandakan Municipal (MPS) Councillors recently paid a courtesy visit to newly-appointed Sandakan Water Department district engineer, Ts. Nelly Juee Philip, to address urgent water issues affecting residents.
Councillors in attendance included Shamsul Kelana, Kelvin Liew Kian Vun, Choong Kwek Leong, Safarudin Abu, Nerisaa Berredo @ Aisah, Lai Shiau Lin, and Kent Chin.
Chong stressed that the visit reflects a proactive shift by MPS Councillors to engage directly with relevant agencies instead of relying on indirect channels.
He noted that Councillors have a duty to respond effectively to public complaints and ground issues, and will now adopt a more coordinated, team-based approach to ensure broader issue coverage and more effective problem-solving.
Key matters raised included – upcoming repair works at the Bandar Prima entrance (starting 13 April), expected to significantly impact Sandakan’s water supply, ongoing water disruptions in kampung areas, progress and concerns over infrastructure projects and Long-term solutions for recurring water problems.
Nelly provided a detailed briefing on the current situation, mitigation efforts, and future plans, and thanked the Councillors for their constructive feedback and collaborative spirit.
Chong reaffirmed MPS Councillors’ commitment to strengthening coordination with government agencies, addressing complaints more efficiently, and bridging communication between authorities and the public.
He emphasised that continuous engagement and a strong working relationship are essential for better service delivery and improved quality of life in Sandakan. – James Leong
