Sabah Electricity contributes RM5.2 million for CSR over past several years

SANDAKAN: Sabah Electricity has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), announcing a total contribution of RM5.2 million over the past several years toward community development, education, welfare, and environmental protection.
The company stated that its CSR efforts will continue into 2026. Sabah Electricity’s Chief Corporate Communication Officer, Lisa Wan Siew Han, conveyed this during her speech at the Sabah Electricity and Sandakan Media Networking Dinner on Monday.
“On the CSR front, I am proud to disclose that over the past few years, Sabah Electricity has contributed RM5.2 million to initiatives that uplift communities, support education, enhance welfare, and protect the environment. These CSR efforts will continue into 2026, in line with our commitment to improving the well-being of the people of Sabah. We believe that through CSR, we energise not just homes and industries, but also hearts and hopes,” she said.
As part of its ongoing support for media partners, Sabah Electricity has extended assistance to unwell media personnel. Following a recent media luncheon in Kota Kinabalu where 10 journalists from various media organisations received aid, the company presented a contribution to a media member in Sandakan on Monday.
“Although the contribution is modest, it is hoped that it will provide some relief to the recipient,” Lisa added.
In addition, the company’s Wakalah Zakat programme has become a key social initiative. In 2025, a total of RM671,000 was channelled to asnaf (eligible recipients) across Sabah and Labuan, including students from underprivileged families, welfare institutions, and needy communities.
This year, RM481,000 in Wakalah Zakat was distributed during Ramadan.
“This initiative not only helps ease the financial burden of recipients but also provides encouragement and hope for them to continue striving to improve their quality of life,” she said.
Addressing the media friends in Sandakan at the networking dinner, Lisa described the event as “more than just a gathering. It is a celebration of partnership, trust, and shared responsibility. We hope that this strategic relationship will continue to be strengthened so that, together, we can deliver accurate, transparent, and balanced information to the people.”
She concluded: “Here’s to a fruitful and enjoyable gathering today. Let’s continue to build strong relationships, share meaningful stories, and work hand-in-hand for the betterment of Sabah and its people.” – James Leong
