LAHAD DATU: The State Marine Police continue to intensify operations against subsidised fuel misappropriation on Sabah’s East Coast through Op Tiris, conducted on April 23.
Acting on intelligence and monitoring efforts, a team of marine police officers carried out an inspection of a rigid tanker lorry carrying diesel along Jalan Paris 3, Lahad Datu–Kinabatangan Route. The lorry was observed acting suspiciously.
The inspection revealed that the lorry bore no valid stickers from any authorised depot. The tank was estimated to contain approximately 10,000 litres of diesel.
The driver, a local man, failed to produce any delivery order or accompanying documentation to verify the intended destination of the fuel.
Consequently, the driver was arrested, while the lorry and its diesel cargo were seized for further investigation. The fuel is suspected of being intended for misappropriation and smuggling to a neighbouring country.
The total estimated value of the seized diesel is RM51,200. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
The State Marine Police remain committed to combating subsidised fuel misappropriation and smuggling activities, ensuring that leakages are curbed and national interests are safeguarded. – James Leong
