SANDAKAN: Two wooden houses and a car were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Kampung Gum-Gum, Batu 16, Jalan Kuari II, in the early hours of Friday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call via its emergency hotline (NG999) at 12.08 am. A team of 12 firefighters from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station, led by Operations Commander PBK I Rosemidan Hj Majid, was despatched to the scene, located 23 kilometres away.
Upon arrival at 12.30 am, the team found two houses fully engulfed in flames. A vehicle parked nearby had also caught fire.
Firefighting efforts involved one hose line (300 feet) equipped with two jets, drawing water from a fire engine and a water tanker. The blaze was brought under control by 12.51 am, and operations concluded at 1.22 am.
