SANDAKAN: Two separate road accidents in different locations on Sabah’s east coast, resulted in a total of 10 injured victims – four in Semporna and six in Sandakan – with no fatalities reported.
On June 6, at 1.55 am, a Proton Saga sedan skidded off the road and came to rest on the shoulder at Kampung Selamat, Pekan Semporna.
A team of seven personnel from the Semporna Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 1.58 am, 3 km from the station. Operations Commander, PBK I Mohd Shukri M. Hamsah, reported that four victims – three men and one woman, all aged in their 20s – had already been transported to Semporna Hospital by members of the public before the firemen’s arrival.
Firemen proceeded to gather information regarding the incident and ensured that there was no further danger to other road-users. The operation was concluded at 2.23 am.
Meanwhile, a collision involving a Perodua Kembara and a Perodua Aruz occurred at RDC, Mile 14 in Sandakan on the afternoon of June 6.
The District Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) was deployed immediately upon receiving the emergency call. According to Kapten (PA) Sulaiman Salama, a total of five individuals with minor injuries along with one family member (six persons in total) were assisted by APM personnel and sent to the hospital for further medical examination. Other victims were transported by the ambulance.
Both APM Sandakan and the Semporna Fire and Rescue Station remain committed to providing emergency assistance and the best possible service to the community. All operations were completed safely. – James Leong
