TAWAU: The Sessions Court here sentenced restaurant worker Nur Aisyah Udin, 20, to six years in prison on Tuesday after she pleaded guilty to trafficking a teenage girl for sexual exploitation.
Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya also imposed a separate six-month jail term on the Indonesian national for entering the country without valid travel documents.
The trafficking charge, brought under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, involved a minor aged 17 years, 10 months, and 15 days. The offence was committed in a guesthouse room along Jalan Masjid (Fajar) at 5.30 pm on June 2.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Nisla Abd Latif submitted that RM150 in cash seized from the victim—who had just finished servicing a client—served as concrete evidence of the teenager’s sexual exploitation.
The arrest took place during a prostitution raid held in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival celebrations at the guesthouse. Authorities discovered the teenage girl during the operation, and investigations revealed that the accused acted as a “madam” (ibu ayam), controlling and managing the minor’s illicit activities.
On the second charge, the accused pleaded guilty to entering Malaysia without valid identification documents, an offence under Section 6(1)(c), punishable under Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002), leading to the additional six-month sentence.
Judge Ahmad Faizadh ordered both custodial sentences to run consecutively and directed that the accused be referred to the Immigration Department for further action upon completion of her term. The prosecution was handled by Nur Nisla and Suhayl Aminin Sallehuddin, while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. – James Leong
