KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia Day is more than a celebration, as it provides a platform to appreciate the history of the nation’s formation.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the event would also provide a platform to strengthen unity and patriotism among the people.
The main committee chairman said this during a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu to brief him on the 63rd Sabah Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16.
“Sabah holds a very important place in the history of Malaysia’s formation.
“This celebration should allow us to remember the struggles of earlier generations while renewing our resolve to continue building a peaceful, progressive and united nation,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Head of State for receiving him and the committee members, and for the advice and views shared to ensure the celebration would be conducted smoothly and meaningfully.
Jafry said preparations for the celebration were being coordinated with all relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
“I call upon all Sabahans to come together and enliven the 63rd Malaysia Day celebration as an expression of our love for the state and nation, in line with the spirit of Malaysia Madani and Sabah Maju Jaya,” he said. – Wu Vuide
