Italian Ambassador visits Sipadan and Mabul

SEMPORNA: The Ambassador of Italy to Malaysia, Raffaele Langella, conducted a working visit to Semporna on Sept 28, where he was welcomed by OCPD Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah and officers from relevant departments and agencies.
On Sept 29, Ambassador Langella continued his working visit to Sipadan and Mabul islands.
The delegation included representatives from the District Police Headquarters, Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), District Marine Police Force, 22nd Battalion of the General Operations Force, Sabah Parks, the Malaysian Armed Forces and other relevant agencies.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation, particularly in security, tourism and environmental conservation. It also gave the delegation first-hand exposure to security arrangements and the unique marine ecosystems of Sipadan and Mabul.
The programme included a security briefing, a visit to a turtle hatchery, coconut crab viewing, the symbolic planting of a coconut tree, the signing of the visitor’s book and a tour of Mabul Island.
Security and area control were maintained by the agencies involved throughout the visit, which proceeded smoothly, safely and in an orderly manner. – James Leong
