Wooden house destroyed in Sandakan fire

SANDAKAN: A wooden house was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Pening Lalat, Jalan Batu Sapi, here, early Monday.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call through the NG999 system at 6.49 am, prompting personnel from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station to be despatched to the scene.
According to officer-in-charge of station Jimmy Lagung, firefighters arrived at 7.06 am and found the single-storey wooden house, measuring approximately 15 by 10 feet, fully engulfed in flames.
The firefighting operation involved one 400-foot hose line with a single nozzle, with water supplied from the fire engine’s tank.
The fire was brought under control at 7.39 am. After ensuring there were no further hazards at the scene, the operation was declared over at 7.55 am.
No casualties were reported, Jimmy added.
A total of 14 firemen took part in the operation, led by Operations Commander PBK I Hasmizan Maksit.
The fire station is situated approximately 15km from the scene. – James Leong
