NABAWAN: The Nabawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) and police housing project will be built at a ceiling cost of RM150 million, with construction expected to begin in January 2027.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the project is a strategic investment to strengthen security along the Sabah-Indonesia border.
“The threats of cross-border crime and illegal activities require stronger infrastructure, personnel strength and operational capability,” he said at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony here yesterday.
Also present were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Haji Ismail, State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman and Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.
Hajiji said Nabawan, gazetted in 1976, still operates under the Keningau IPD despite covering 6,089 square kilometres — an area too large for effective policing without its own headquarters.
He said the new IPD will meet current operational needs, improve response time, and strengthen public confidence, while providing proper working facilities and housing for personnel.
“I want this implemented with the highest integrity, to specification and standard. We want not just completion, but long-term benefit for the people and for PDRM,” he said.
Hajiji added that security is the foundation for development and the State Government will continue to upgrade security infrastructure, especially in interior districts.
