PENAMPANG: A motorcyclist died after the motorcycle he was riding lost control before crashing into a roundabout and hitting a car in an incident at Jalan Bundusan, here, yesterday.
In the incident at 10.15pm, the victim, who suffered serious injuries, was confirmed dead by medical officers who attended to the scene.
Penampang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sammy Newton said that based on initial investigations, the victim was travelling from KDCA towards Beverly Hills.
However, he said, upon arriving at the location, the victim is believed to have lost control before hitting a roundabout and skidding into the opposite lane.
“As a result of the incident, the victim skidded and crashed into a BMW car driven by a 48-year-old man.
“The motorcyclist has been confirmed dead and the victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Department, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu for a post-mortem,” he said in a media statement yesterday.
According to him, further investigations will be conducted in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In this regard, Sammy asked the public who have information about the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Saparia Ladoni at 019-809 5133 or come to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
He said the public is also advised to always obey traffic rules and always be careful, especially at roundabouts at night.
“The public is also advised not to disseminate photographs and video clips related to the accident to protect the sensitivity of the victim’s family,” he said. – Fardy Bungga
