TAWAU: A timber storage warehouse at Tanjung Batu Laut Log Pond here was completely destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning.
The Tawau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call through NG999 at 6.09 am. Firefighters arrived at 6.18 am and began firefighting operations a minute later.
Two fire engines and a portable pump operated by the Kampung Titingan Community Fire Team were used to fight the blaze. Water was sourced from fire hydrants and an open water supply.
The fire was brought under control at 7.53 am. However, firefighters continued operations to extinguish remaining embers and prevent the fire from restarting.
At 4pm, a company-provided bulldozer helped move burnt timber to give firefighters better access to hotspots.
A total of 17 firefighters from BBP Tawau responded, assisted by the Kampung Titingan Community Fire Team and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM). Two Tawau Zone 5 fire investigation officers also attended the scene.
No casualties were reported. Overhaul operations continued to ensure all remaining hotspots were extinguished. – James Leong
