Chong: PM deserves credit for raising Malaysia’s global visibility

KOTA KINABALU: Veteran politician Datuk David Chong Ket Sui said he noted that Malaysia’s international visibility has increased after hosting the ASEAN meeting in October 2025.
The meeting saw dozens of world leaders in attendance, including US President Donald Trump and China’s top leadership, all due to the efforts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he said.
Chong said the Prime Minister should be credited for his efforts and was instead criticised by the opposition for “selling the country.”
“For me, the Prime Minister deserves to be praised, as the world now sees Malaysia as a stable and progressive nation with a strengthening economy,” said Chong.
He added that, according to analysts, Malaysia secured foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments totalling around RM150 billion during the ASEAN Summit.
“This large amount will certainly benefit Malaysia’s economy, and the people will also enjoy the fruits, as job creation is expected to follow,” said Chong.
He said that since becoming Prime Minister, Anwar has actively travelled overseas to meet world leaders, investors, and multinational corporations to promote Malaysia as a prime investment destination.
However, the opposition claims these trips are a waste of the country’s money, he lamented.
“In fact, the Prime Minister’s overseas trips in engaging world leaders are putting Malaysia on the world map, and Sabah also benefits as the state is being promoted,” he said.
He added that the Prime Minister has been working very hard to improve the economy, yet the opposition is desperate to discredit him.
Chong therefore urged leaders in Sabah and Sarawak to support the Prime Minister to provide stability in the national political landscape, which the opposition is trying to destabilise.
“Let the Prime Minister complete his full term, as the people are tired of frequent changes of the Federal Government and excessive politicking,” he said.
