Fire destroys home in Sandakan, no injuries reported

SANDAKAN: A wooden house in Kampung Sungai Batang was completely razed in a fire that broke out on Thursday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call via the NG999 hotline at 8.32 am. A total of 15 firefighters from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station were immediately despatched to the scene, situated 18 kilometres from the station.
The first fire engine arrived at the location at 8.59 am. Operation Commander, PBK I Hasmizan Maksit, reported that the blaze involved a 70 x 30-foot wooden dwelling, which was 100% engulfed in flames.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 9.04 am—just five minutes after their arrival. Crews later conducted overhaul tasks at the site to extinguish any remaining hotspots and prevent any potential rekindling.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in connection with the incident. The cause of the fire and losses had yet to be ascertained. – James Leong
