Three warehouses, 12 vehicles destroyed in Penampang industrial park fire

PENAMPANG: Three blocks of plastic warehouses and 12 vehicles were destroyed in a late-night fire at Mogoputi Industrial Park Phase 2 here on Thursday.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre dispatched 29 personnel and appliances from the Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, and Putatan fire stations following an emergency call at 10.29pm.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Pisar Aziz said firefighters from the Penampang station found three warehouses engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene following a distress call.
They immediately requested assistance from the Kota Kinabalu and Putatan fire stations.
Upon arrival four minutes later, firefighters discovered that the blaze involved three permanent warehouse structures, each measuring 100 by 30 feet, which were entirely consumed by the flames.
The fire also razed 12 parked vehicles, comprising four vans, three four-wheel-drive vehicles, two five-tonne Isuzu lorries, a Perodua Viva, a Mitsubishi Triton, and a motorcycle.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 12.32am using three water hose jets fed by machinery and nearby fire hydrants.
Crews established firebreaks to contain the flames and prevented the blaze from spreading to six adjacent factories.
No casualties were reported in the incident, and operations officially concluded at 6.16am on Friday following overhaul work and safety inspections.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd personnel were at the scene to assist operations.
“Fire suppression work is still ongoing to ensure there are no remaining hotspots within the area,” Mohd Pisar said, adding that the cause of the fire and extent of the losses had yet to be determined.
