KUNAK: The State Marine Police in a joint operation with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), raided an illegal crude palm oil (CPO) storage yard here on August 25.
The swoop conducted at about 2.30 pm, targeted a premises believed to be an illegal collection centre and resulted in the seizure of approximately 23.9 metric tonnes of CPO and several vehicles.
Two local suspects, aged between 25 and 38, were arrested. The total estimated value of the confiscated goods is RM1,152,070. The case is being investigated by MPOB.
The State Marine Police encourages the public to continue providing information on illegal activities and remains committed to combating smuggling for the security and well-being of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Lahad Datu Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested five individuals during an anti-vice raid on a hotel on August 24.
The operation which was carried out at 9.30 pm led to the arrest of three men and two women suspected of being involved in prostitution activities that had been operating since May this year using the MiChat application.
Charges ranged from RM150 to RM300. The case is being investigated under Section 372A/372B of the Penal Code and the Immigration Act 1959/63, which carry penalties of imprisonment, fines, and whipping.
In another development, police arrested a 20-year-old local man for allegedly committing a sexual act against a 16-year-old female student in Silam, Lahad Datu.
The suspect was arrested in the compound of the district police headquarters about 1.15 pm on Aug 23, and the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping. – James Leong
