MCTA Sabah explores interior destinations

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) Sabah explored community-based tourism products in the interior districts of Tenom and Keningau.
A 30-member delegation embarked on a three-day familiarisation tour from March 6 to 8 as part of efforts in support of Visit Malaysia 2026 and Visit Sabah 2027.
During the visit, the group also carried out a corporate social responsibility programme with its strategic partner, Hong Kong media personality Hugo Wong.
The partnership aims to promote Sabah’s diverse tourism products to the Hong Kong and China markets, while strengthening collaboration between industry players and grassroots tourism operators.
Participants visited the Pusat Kebudayaan Murut Sabah, Naluyan Jungle Lodge Resort, Taman Pertanian Sabah, Yit Foh Coffee Factory and Park, Tenom Hakka Farm, Baxter Farm, Perkasa Hotel Tenom, Tenom Tropical Fruits Farm, Tong Fah Coffee Factory, Padas Farmstay Tenom, Fatt Choi Coffee Cabin, Tenom Tourism Information Centre, Yong Farmstay, Yun Lee Food Court, Chin’s Orchard, Yun Fook Trading and Eco Pelancongan, and Tagal Community Kampung Rantai Apin-Apin in Keningau.
The visits allowed participants to experience the region’s natural landscapes, agricultural heritage, coffee culture and rural lifestyle, while gaining insights into the development potential of community-based tourism in Sabah’s interior.
MCTA Sabah Chapter chairman Vincent Sia said the initiative would help industry players better understand the tourism potential of interior destinations.
“Tenom and Keningau offer unique experiences through agrotourism, culture and community-based tourism.
“We hope more stakeholders will work together to develop and promote these destinations to international markets,” he said.
In line with the Visit Malaysia and Visit Sabah campaigns, he said MCTA Sabah would continue to work closely with tourism stakeholders to promote the state’s diverse offerings beyond its islands and nature attractions, highlighting its cultural, agricultural and rural experiences.
