TAWAU: The police here detained a man who went berserk and threatened villagers in an incident at Kampung Hidayat near Batu 4 Jalan Apas, on Jan 26.
Tawau OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin, stated that the incident occurred around 9.30 am when Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) personnel were conducting a routine patrol and received an emergency call from the District Control Centre (DCC) concerning an individual acting aggressively in the area.
He said that a team of patrol personnel, with the assistance of two additional MPV patrol vehicles, managed to detain a 34-year-old local man. Verification through the Mobile Card Acceptance Device (MCAD) system later confirmed him as an individual wanted by the police in connection with a fraud case reported in Putatan, Kota Kinabalu, last year.
Jasmin added that further inspection revealed the suspect was also in possession of several dangerous items believed to have been used during the incident, including a screwdriver, a paper cutter blade, scissors blades, and an iron rod, all of which were subsequently seized by the police.
He explained that the suspect and the seized items were taken to the District Police Headquarters for further investigation under Section 506 and Section 420 of the Penal Code.
In light of this, the police advised the public not to take matters into their own hands when encountering aggressive or suspicious individuals. Instead, they should immediately relay information to police to enable swift action to be taken for public safety. – James Leong
