SANDAKAN: The long-standing land issue in Kampung Karamunting is nearing resolution thanks to the cooperation of various parties, said Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin.
He stated that the latest developments regarding the matter are expected to be presented at the upcoming Sandakan Municipal Full Council Meeting.
“This land issue is quite similar to previous situations in Kampung Bokara and Kampung Air, which were eventually resolved after coordination with the relevant departments. Both villages have now been officially recognized as village lots.
“The Kampung Karamunting case is on the same track and is currently in the resolution process, which is a very positive development,” he said during the MADANI Community Programme in Kampung Karamunting Baru here on Monday.
Hiew who is also Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Karamunting Division chairman, acknowledged that progress in resolving this issue has not been easy and expressed his appreciation to Sandakan Municipal Council, the Land and Survey Department, and landowners in finding a solution.
“I will continue to monitor closely this process to ensure all steps are carried out transparently and in accordance with the law, safeguarding the rights of the villagers,” he emphasized. – James Leong
