20 Sabah skills graduates get jobs in Johor

KOTA KINABALU: Twenty Sabahans trained in high-precision micro-soldering have secured jobs in Johor.
They are graduates of the Certificate in Precision Micro-Soldering & Electronics Technopreneurship programme. All 20 received offers from GN Resound Malaysia.
The offers were presented yesterday. The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is also Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport.
Ewon said the jobs are the result of a partnership between GN Resound Malaysia and local trainer Gain Forlife.
The partnership has run 27 batches. It has produced almost 400 graduates, all hired in Johor.
“This shows what industry collaboration can do,” Ewon said. “It gives Sabahans a clear path to a better income, especially those who need it most.”
He thanked GN Resound, represented by Dr Sebastian Tin, and Gain For life managing director Nelson Mosinoh.
Ewon said MINDET, will continue to support Gain For life to train more Sabahans.
From next year, MINDET wants entrepreneurship added to the syllabus.
“We want graduates to have technical skills and basic business knowledge,” he said. “Then they can eventually start their own businesses and hire others.”
The move is part of MINDET’s Sabah First vision, he said. The vision has two aims: help Sabahans become entrepreneurs, and help them get jobs in industry.
Sabah’s unemployment remains a concern, Ewon said. The state must attract more investment, grow industry and expand enterprise to create jobs.
He had a final message for the 20 graduates heading to Johor.
“Success is not just income. It is also responsibility to family,” he said. “However busy you are, do not neglect your parents. Keep in touch.”
