TAWAU: A local eatery was completely razed in a fire that broke out late Wednesday night in Pekan Merotai, near here.
The Tawau Fire and Rescue Station was alerted to the emergency via MERS999 at 11.14 pm. Firefighters travelled 29 kilometres to the scene, arriving at 11:49 pm to find the building fully engulfed.
According to Operations Commander PBK I Jehrey Ibno, the blaze involved a semi-concrete structure that was 100 percent destroyed. The combined efforts of four Merotai volunteer firemen and six policemen were crucial in bringing the blaze under control by 12.22 am.
The operation was fully concluded 10 minutes later at 12.32 am.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. Firefighters remained on site to ensure the area was safe before returning to their station. – James Leong
