KUANTAN: The Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (Safma) conducted a working visit to the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Complex in Kuantan to observe the operations of the landing jetty and the handling of fishery products.
The visit was led by Safma general manager Burhan Japar, together with board members and officers. They were received by Pahang Fishermen’s Association (Pernepa) general manager Zalina Mohamed.
The visit was part of Safma’s efforts to strengthen cooperation while exchanging views and experience in managing the fisheries industry, particularly in the landing, handling and marketing of seafood products.
The delegation also observed the landing of catches by fishermen and the fish-handling process at the jetty.
Burhan said such visits were important in giving Safma exposure to the approaches and operational management methods adopted at LKIM Kuantan.
“Sharing experiences is valuable as each area has its own approaches and challenges in managing the fisheries industry.
“Through this visit, we were able to observe field operations, exchange views and identify areas for cooperation that could benefit the industry and fishing communities,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to Zalina Mohamed and Pernepa for their hospitality and for sharing information throughout the visit.
He said cooperation between Safma, fishermen’s associations and relevant agencies should continue to be strengthened to ensure the fisheries sector develops sustainably while benefiting fishermen and consumers.
