KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Sabah State Government for the contribution granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar to victims of the fire disasters in Kudat and Sandakan.
The RM500,000 contribution was presented by the Managing Trustee of the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation, Tan Sri Dato’ Avinderjit Singh to the Chief Minister, in the presence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara here yesterday.
“This reflects His Majesty’s concern for the people of Sabah who were affected by the disasters.
“The State Government greatly appreciates the contribution and support provided, particularly for the fire tragedies at Kampung Gumpa, Kudat, and the major fire at Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan,” said the Chief Minister.
He said the Sabah State Government, through the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), will continue to strengthen the coordination of welfare assistance, management of temporary evacuation centres and ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of the victims are safeguarded.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Secretary of State Home Affairs and Research Datuk Awang Shahminan Sahari, Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk Walter Kenson and Kudat District Officer Charles William Dabbi.
On April 16 this year, eight houses were destroyed in the Kudat fire involving 67 victims while on April 18, a massive blaze razed 1,050 houses in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, affecting 914 heads of household.
Sultan Ibrahim, consented to witness the presentation of a contribution from the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation. The contribution was presented by Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation Managing Trustee, Tan Sri Dato’ Avinderjit Singh (right), to Hajiji (left).
