SANDAKAN: A house at Kampung Sim-Sim, Jambatan 18, collapsed Wednesday after being battered by strong winds. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident.
The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sandakan District received a distress call at 5.59 pm and immediately mobilised a response team to the scene.
According to Sandakan APM Officer, Kapten (PA) Sulaiman Salama, the operation involved one officer and seven personnel, supported by an ambulance and a Light Rescue Vehicle. Their primary tasks were to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of the occupants.
Inspection revealed that the rear section of the house had caved in, believed to be due to the powerful gusts. The homeowner reported that the balcony had collapsed the previous night, followed by the entire rear structure giving way this afternoon. The incident affected a family of eight, including the head of the household.
APM personnel conducted thorough checks to confirm no injuries, cordoned off hazardous areas, and advised the family to keep clear of the debris. The victims were also instructed to file official reports with the Village Head and the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) for further assistance.
The operation concluded at 7.03 pm. – James Leong
