KOTA KINABALU: A charitable non-government organization Reach Out will be handing over food and medical kits aid to more than 2,000 families in Pitas and Bengkoka starting this month.

Its chairperson, Fauziah Stephens said the organization started its activities in Pitas, Bengkoka, Kudat and Banggi since 2020 and ongoing.

“We recently received appeal from the villages, asking for food and medical kit assistance.

“We raised fund and received generous sponsorship from CIMB Foundation and also assistance from several bodies namely Tough Diesel, Happy Place, Kota Kinabalu Red Crescent and Persatuan Kebajikan Wanita Berwawasan Pitas.

“These aids will be channeled in stages starting Jan 25,” she said in a press conference, here, on Jan 22.

Reach Out is a charitable non-government organization whose mission is to assist the poorest of the poor in rural areas of Sabah.

In January last year, many of the areas in Pitas and Bengkoka experienced flood which caused thousands of families being cut-off from Pitas township due to inaccessible roads, collapsed bridges and swelling river levels.

Yet once again, starting late December 2021 to the present, Pitas- Bengkoka has been hit with very heavy rain together with the phenomena of high tides.
According to Fauziah, during the recent flood, many kampung folks were lucky to be relocated to evacuation centres, while a lot more are still stranded and completely cut-off from immediate help.

Many school children, as of today, were forced to commute to the schools by boats, where some of pictures of children in small boats without live jackets went viral and received many feedback from Malaysians.

“We are currently working on raising fund for flood preparation supplies and hoping for more corporate bodies to come forward and help us to make their wishes come true,” she added.
