SANDAKAN: A fire broke out on the first floor of an apartment at Block A, Sri Taman, here on Monday afternoon, causing extensive damage to the unit.
The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station responded swiftly, deploying six firefighters to the scene, located just 2 kilometers away, after receiving an emergency call at 1:01 pm.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 1:18 pm and fully extinguished it shortly after. However, approximately 90% of the apartment’s interior, including household appliances, was destroyed in the incident.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident attracted a large crowd of onlookers who gathered on the street as thick black smoke billowed from the burning apartment.
