KIULU: Acting President of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, emphasized that PBS’s primary goal in the upcoming State Election is to ensure that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition retains its mandate to govern the state.
As the Deputy Chief Minister II, he stated that maintaining GRS as the State Government is crucial for sustaining development and political stability in Sabah.
“We must ensure GRS’s victory in the upcoming State Election,” he said during the opening ceremony of the PBS N.15 Kiulu Division’s 40th anniversary celebration at Minurod Campsite, Pahu, on Sunday.
Dr. Joachim reiterated PBS’s commitment to fighting for the rights of Sabahans as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). He also urged party members to remain united and avoid internal divisions.
“Our focus now is to stay relevant after 40 years of establishment. The younger generation must step forward as future leaders, identify problems, and seek solutions,” he said.
Commenting on political cooperation, Dr. Joachim expressed confidence in the strong relationship between PBS and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah), noting that both parties had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
“I am very positive about this collaboration. Nearly 99% of StarSabah leaders are former PBS members. Our struggles are the same. If we are not united, we will remain divided, and our voices will not be heard,” he said.
He added that strengthening GRS is a priority to ensure the voices of Sabahans continue to be represented in both state and federal governance.
Dr. Joachim also extended his appreciation to PBS Kiulu division chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who is also the Kiulu State Assemblyman, and the organizing committee chaired by Aliamis Sami, Deputy Chief of PBS Kiulu Division, for successfully organizing the event.
He called on all members to remain united and work harder to ensure the Kiulu State Legislative Assembly seat remains with the party.
Also present were PBS deputy president Datuk Seri Dr. Yee Moh Chai, vice presidents, PBS Youth exco co-heads, Supreme Council members, division chiefs, PBS Women’s exco members, and local leaders of the Kiulu state constituency. – James Leong
